Red or black motor plug: which controller do you choose?
By the Sache Bikes workshop · updated 17-10-2026
Many fatbikes, including the Qmwheel V20 and the Ouxi V8 and C80, are supplied with different motor connectors depending on the year of manufacture. The color is the easiest way to identify them.
Why is that important?
The controller and motor must speak the same "language": the same connector and the same layout of wires and sensors. If the connectors are different, they will not fit or will not work properly.
How to check
- Follow the cable coming out of the rear motor to the first connector.
- Look at the color and shape.
- Take a photo of it, together with the controller.
Examples from our range
- Qmwheel V20 controllers: versions with a red connector (years of manufacture 2022-2025) and a newer version with a black motor cable.
- Ouxi V8 controllers and Ouxi C80: versions with a red or black motor connector.
- Red-black motor adapter cables for special cases.
What if I replace the motor?
If you replace the motor with one that has a different connector, you may also need a new controller. Ask us before you order.
