What does the winter check include?

  • Tires: inflated to the correct pressure so you maintain grip on wet cobblestones and bike paths.
  • Chain: cleaned where necessary and lubricated to prevent rust from rain and road salt.
  • Brakes: brake pads, discs and brake levers checked for operation and wear.
  • Lights: headlight, rear light and light switch tested, as you cycle with lights more often during the darker months.
  • Bolts: handlebars, seat post, wheels, stand and mudguards checked and tightened.
  • Recommendation list: you will receive an overview of recommended repairs, including estimated prices.

Do you recognize these issues?

  • It takes noticeably longer to come to a stop when you brake in the rain.
  • The chain creaks, squeaks or looks brown with rust.
  • Your headlight flickers or your rear light cuts out on bumpy sections.
  • The handlebars or seat are no longer firmly secured.
  • Your tires feel soft and the bike feels sluggish.
  • You can no longer remember when the bike was last checked.

Winter check or service?

The winter check is a check with minor adjustments: we do not make any major changes or replace any parts. The goal is to let you know how your bike is doing. If your bike hasn't been to the workshop in a while or your brakes are noticeably worse, a service is more appropriate. Bronze (€55) replaces the brake pads and adjusts the tire pressure and bolts. Gold (€85) also adjusts the derailleur and chain and includes a comprehensive system check. Premium (€125) adds a deep clean and paints rust spots matte black. Not sure? Start with the winter check: the recommendation list will show whether a service is needed.

Keep your fatbike winter-ready yourself

You can do a lot yourself between checks. After riding on roads where salt has been spread, rinse the salt off the chain and brake discs, dry the bike and then apply a light coat of lubricant to the chain. Charge the battery indoors at room temperature and do not leave it completely empty for long periods. Check the tire pressure every few weeks, as cold air causes the pressure to drop. Replace a worn light or brake pad yourself using parts from our lighting and brake collections, or have us install them.

Frequently asked questions

When is a winter check most useful?

Just before it gets dark early and the roads become wet and salted, so in the autumn. But a check is also useful in the middle of winter if you have doubts about your brakes or lights.

I have two fatbikes, do I get a discount?

Yes. You get 50% off the winter check for the second bike. Bring them together, and we will check both at the same time.

Do I have to have the repairs on the recommendation list done straight away?

No. The list is a recommendation. You decide what to have done and when; we will not do anything without consulting you.

Will my battery also be tested during the winter check?

The standard points are tires, chain, brakes, lights and bolts. If you notice that your range is decreasing or the bike is cutting out, let us know; we will then see how much further investigation will cost.

Can I wait while the winter check is being done?

The work itself takes half an hour. Whether you can wait depends on how busy we are; message us beforehand, and we will agree on a time.

Is the winter check also available for a fatbike I bought elsewhere?

Yes, we check all common fatbikes and e-bikes, regardless of where you bought them.
